Join me, Stacy Ruse, LPC, as we explore this nervous system-regulating, self-care practice adapted from the work of Dr. Kate Truitt. We'll engage in a series of "Havening" techniques to calm the nervous system and promote a sense of safety and relaxation. I'll invite you to set an intention for the emotional state you'd like to cultivate, then we'll begin moving through each step: • Face Havening: Gently stroke your forehead outward towards your temples. • Palm Havening: Rub your palms together in a smooth, circular motion. • Arm Havening: Cross your arms and stroke from your shoulders to your elbows. As you move through these steps, feel free to incorporate additional relaxation tools, such as humming or singing, visualizing a peaceful place, or practicing deep rhythmic breathing. Finally, we'll conclude with Ear Havening—a soothing ear massage for vagal toning, where you gently massage the outer edges of your ears, moving from the top down to the lobes. Remember, you can use these self-Havening practices anytime you need grounding, relaxation, or nervous system regulation, adjusting the motions and timing for what you need in the moment.
